The SKF Advantage: Vibracon Chock for Easy, Quick & Accurate Mounting

SKF Vibracon
chocks are permanent, strong and re-usable machinery mounting chocks that are designed for easy, quick and reliable installation of primarily- rotating machinery. The chocks accommodate the angular difference between machine and the mounting base eliminating expensive machining of the base or extra work of installing epoxy resin chocks or steel shims.

The self-leveling capability combined with the height adjustment feature eliminates the possibility of a soft foot during first installation or throughout the life cycle of the machinery. These features allow for quick and easy installation with minimal down-time, while avoiding serious machine distortion caused by Soft Foot.

Application SKF Vibracon chocks

Although originally designed for industrial use, the SKF Vibracon chock became well-known and frequently used when applied in a marine environment. Over the year, the SKF Vibracon has been applied in many more industries due to the added value it provides.

Typical industries

The SKF Vibracon chocks have been used in many different industries and can be found among others in:

  • Energy and Power Generation
  • Marine
  • Industrial
  • Offshore
  • Military and navy
  • Material handling

Typical applicants

There is a wide variety in applicants all across the supply chain and the life cycle of machinery.

  • OEMs
  • Packagers (whose main activity is skid building and assembling)
  • Service companies
  • EPC contractors
  • Shipyards

Selection process

In the majority of applications the Vibracon can be easily selected with the help of 3 steps:

Image shows the steps on how to select the appropriate SKF Vibracon chock

  1. Determine the bolt size. The Vibracon chock sizes are related to the bolt size.
  2. Determine the available chock height. The outcome of this will lead to select either the Original or the Low Profile Vibracon chocks.
  3. With an increasing corrosive environment, the demand on the corrosion protection or material characteristics of the chocks will change from Carbon Steel, to Surface Treated Steel or even to Stainless Steel.

The SKF Advantage

SKF Vibracon advantages are the absence of curing time, as with epoxy resin chocks, it eliminates the trial and error alignment process characteristic for the “mill and shim” method. SKF Vibracon has many configurations and material options to satisfy technical concerns or service providers, in OEM applications as well as in end-user environments.

SKF Vibracon can also help save costs. Its elements are an economical means to establish a perfect mounting plane as it has the capability to perfectly create the mounting plane within minutes and repeatedly for production or service managers and accountants.
